ReadSource’s Orton-Gillingham training program is structured for individuals and educators. The courses and classes are designed for those interested in increasing their knowledge of the Orton-Gillingham approach. Please note that certain classes have prerequisites. SPRING COURSES
Associate Coursework

The Orton-Gillingham Associate Level Class is a comprehensive, nine-month class. The class advances an attendee's understanding of the specific procedures of the Orton-Gillingham Approach and the underlying principles in teaching reading, spelling, and vocabulary to students. Teachers learn how to instruct struggling readers in ways that unlock the code of reading and spelling.

  • No prerequisite needed
  • The completion of this course satisfies the coursework requirement at the Associate Level (Option A) of certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA).
  • Offered September through May, Wednesday mornings, 8:15AM – 10:00AM EST

Classroom Educator

The Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator class focuses on the principles and fundamentals of the Orton-Gillingham Approach. This class will provide an understanding of dyslexia, characteristics of the diagnosed dyslexic learner as well as those learners who struggle to read without a diagnosis, specific procedures for teaching these students primarily in reading and spelling, and administration of informal assessments.

  • No prerequisite needed
  • The completion of this course satisfies the coursework requirement at the Classroom Educator Level of certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA).

Reaching All Readers

Reaching All Readers is an asynchronous, virtual training course focused on effective, intentional reading instruction that helps all students in the classroom, not only those who struggle. In this course, skilled teachers and tutors use the Science of Reading to demonstrate how a multisensory, structured approach to reading instruction can transform reading outcomes in your classroom.

  • No prerequisite needed

Beyond the Basics

Beyond the Basics will review the Orton-Gillingham Approach and the concepts covered in the Classroom Educator class. In addition, more advanced morphology including Latin and Greek roots, prefixes and suffixes, and accenting rules targeting advanced decoding will be covered. Beyond the Basics will also further a practitioners understanding of enriching and extending a lesson plan to include more in depth practice with fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written expression. Content provided will focus on differentiation, diagnostic and prescriptive teaching, and progress monitoring.

  • Prerequisite needed: Classroom Educator
  • The completion of course satisfy the 60 hours of the coursework requirement at the Associate Level of certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA).
  • Offered in the spring and summer. Days and times vary.

Workshops/Certified Coursework

ReadSource provides workshops and certified coursework on various topics. These offerings can be presented off-site and can be tailored to small or large groups, single day or multiple days.

  • There is no prerequisite for our workshops but having coursework at the Classroom Educator Level or Associate Level is highly preferred.
  • Offered throughout the school year and in the summers. Days and times vary.

Practicum Programs

ReadSource offers practicum programs at the Classroom Educator, Associate, and Certified Levels of membership through the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA).

  • Prerequisite: Appropriate Coursework is required before enrolling in a practicum
  • Practicum programs are open for application in the fall.

Introduction to Psychological Testing

This workshop focuses on gaining a better understanding of psychological testing and how to use that knowledge.

  • There is no prerequisite for this class but having coursework at the Classroom Educator Level or Associate Level is highly preferred.
  • The completion of this course that satisfies some of the coursework requirements at the Certified Level of certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA).
