Practicum Programs

ReadSource offers practicum programs at the Classroom Educator, Associate, and Certified Levels of membership through the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA). More information regarding the levels of membership can be found on OGA’s website at http://www.ortonacademy.org/.

Classroom Educator Practicum

Practicum Commitment Period: October 1, 2024 – May 1, 2025
Total Cost: $1500

An individual in the Classroom Educator Practicum will be mentored by a Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) to continue refining skills to integrate and apply the knowledge, concepts, and skills learned during the coursework in a classroom setting. The Supervising Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) will observe a 40-60 minute lesson on 5 separate occasions and provide written and verbal feedback as well as ongoing support over the course of one school year. After completion of the practicum, the individual will be qualified to seek certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Classroom Educator Level. Due to changes in OGA standards, Classroom Educator Practicum Certification can no longer be applied towards the Associate Level Practicum.

Associate Practicum

Total Cost: $3000
Registration: By invitation only

The Associate Practicum is only open to those who have recently completed Associate training (ideally within the past year) or the combination of Classroom Educator and Beyond the Basics training. On August 1, 2024, those individuals will be invited to apply for a practicum. Applications will be due on August 15, 2024, and applicants will be notified of acceptance on August 22, 2024. All those in the Associate Practicum will be mentored by a Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) to continue refining skills to integrate and apply the knowledge, concepts, and skills learned during the coursework in a remedial setting. The Supervising Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) will observe a 40-60 minute lesson on 10 separate occasions and provide written and verbal feedback as well as ongoing support over the course of the calendar year. After completion of the practicum, the individual will be qualified to apply for certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Associate Level. The commitment period for the practicum is October 2024 to September 2025.

Certified Practicum

Practicum Commitment Period: October 2024 – September 2026 (2 years)
Associate Certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy is a prerequisite

An individual in the Certified Practicum will be mentored by a Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) to expand his or her depth and breadth of knowledge about dyslexia. The Supervising Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) will observe a 40-60 minute lesson on 10 separate occasions and provide written and verbal feedback as well as ongoing support over the course of two years. After completion of the practicum, the individual will be qualified to seek certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Certified Level.
