Practicum Programs

ReadSource offers practicum programs at the Classroom Educator, Associate, and Certified Levels of membership through the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA). More information regarding the levels of membership can be found on OGA’s website at http://www.ortonacademy.org/.

Classroom Educator Practicum

Practicum Commitment Period: October 2023 – May 2024 (2 semesters)
Cost per semester, $500
Registration is Closed

An individual in the Classroom Educator Practicum will be mentored by a Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) to continue refining skills to integrate and apply the knowledge, concepts, and skills learned during the coursework in a classroom setting. The Supervising Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) will observe a 40-60 minute lesson on 5 separate occasions and provide written and verbal feedback as well as ongoing support over the course of one school year. After completion of the practicum, the individual will be qualified to seek certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Classroom Educator Level.

Associate Practicum

Practicum Commitment Period: October 2023 – May 2025 (4 semesters)
Cost per semester, $500
Registration is Closed

The Associate Practicum is only open to those who have recently completed Associate training or the combination of Classroom Educator and Beyond the Basics training. On September 1, 2023, those individuals will be invited to apply for a practicum, and they will be notified of acceptance on September 24, 2023. All those in the Associate Practicum will be mentored by a Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) to continue refining skills to integrate and apply the knowledge, concepts, and skills learned during the coursework in a remedial setting. The Supervising Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) will observe a 40-60 minute lesson on 10 separate occasions and provide written and verbal feedback as well as ongoing support over the course of two years. After completion of the practicum, the individual will be qualified to apply for certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Associate Level.

Certified Practicum

Practicum Commitment Period: October 2023 – May 2025 (4 semesters)
Associate Certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy is a prerequisite
Registration is Closed

An individual in the Certified Practicum will be mentored by a Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) to expand his or her depth and breadth of knowledge about dyslexia. The Supervising Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) will observe a 40-60 minute lesson on 10 separate occasions and provide written and verbal feedback as well as ongoing support over the course of two years. After completion of the practicum, the individual will be qualified to seek certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Certified Level.
