Associate Coursework

This is a 60 hour, two-week course that satisfies the coursework requirement at the Associate Level (Option A) of certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy.

Classroom Educator

The Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator (30 hour) class focuses on the principles and fundamentals of the Orton-Gillingham Approach. It satisfies the coursework requirement at the Classroom Educator Level of certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy.

Beyond the Basics

Beyond the Basics is a 30-hour course that reviews the Orton-Gillingham Approach and the concepts learned in the Classroom Educator Class. In conjunction with the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Class, this course will satisfy the 60 hours of the coursework requirement at the Associate Level of certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy.

Reading Comprehension & Vocabulary

The 15-hour Reading Comprehension & Vocabulary workshop will outline techniques for teachers to improve their students’ reading comprehension skills. This course satisfies a portion of the coursework requirement at the Certified Level of certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy.

Phonology & Morphology

This 15-hour course will review important aspects of assessing and improving phonological awareness for dyslexic students. In addition, this class will point out distinct time periods in which English underwent changes as well as the impact these changes had on pronunciation, vocabulary, and spelling. This course satisfies some of the coursework requirement at the Certified Level of certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy.

Early Literacy

This workshop focuses on early literacy instruction. Preschool teachers will learn how to create a solid foundation for reading success as well as how to identify students with red flags for reading difficulty.

Interpreting Psycho-Educational Evaluations

This workshop focuses on gaining a better understanding of psychological testing. This is a 15-hour course that satisfies some of the coursework requirement at the Certified Level of certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy.

Lesson Planning & Implementation

This 15-hour workshop is geared for practitioners working in one-on-one tutoring settings. In the Lesson Planning and Implementation workshop, attendees will use informal evaluations to determine where to begin with a student.
