Beyond the Basics
Beyond the Basics will review the Orton-Gillingham Approach and the concepts learned in the Classroom Educator Class. Some morphology (prefixes and suffixes) and accenting will be covered. In addition, elements of contextual reading – vocabulary, fluency and reading comprehension – will be incorporated. Participants will be taught how to administer informal assessment measures and design lesson plans.
This is a 30-hour course. In conjunction with the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Class, this course will satisfy the 60 hours of the coursework requirement at the Associate Level of certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy.
Prerequisite: Classroom Educator within the last two years
Course availability: Offered in the spring and summer. Days and times vary.
